Now, I should start by telling you, that she and her big sister had spent several days prior to this building “fairy gardens.” These consisting of bits of flowers (that they always pick with no stems, what is that about?) and rubbish artfully placed under a tree or in a pot in hopes of enticing fairies to come live in them. They had concocted wild stories about when the fairies would arrive, and I even heard Erica make a “phone call” to Amazon one day ordering fairy bedding so everything would be just right for them.
Then one day we walked into the garden and were greeted with this sight . . .
Savannah was absolutely mesmerized by the fairies emerging hair-first from the corn stalks!
She ran around the garden petting the pretty pink hair on her fairies before running to get her sister to share in their good fortune.
It was pretty much the cutest, sweetest thing in the whole world! Love, love, love!
Seriously though, this was an heirloom corn variety called “Stowell’s Evergreen.” The flavor was very similar to the Silver Queen that we also planted, but we thought the yield was better per plant. We plan to grow this again next year, even if only in hopes that the fairies will come again. I will post more about our corn patch and other row garden crops soon! For now, I’m headed to bed. Night night!
