Would you care to take a trip down memory lane with me?
I have a homesteading blog and I talk a lot about gardening. I figured some people might wonder just how long I’ve been gardening.
The answer is a long, l o n g , time!

We had so many cucumbers that year! I distinctly remember that Grandaddy was giving some away to a friend, and that REALLY hurt my little 4 year old feelings! I begged him “ANdaddy, pwease don’t give away my two-tumbers!” He assured me that I would still have plenty (and so would everyone else we knew.) He just loved to give away veggies. Later in life he was actually known as “the vegetable man,” but that is another story for another day.
He didn’t live with us, but at the time these pictures were taken, we had a much better garden spot than he did, so he drove over to garden. It didn’t take long for my parents to realize that Grandaddy’s garden grew quite a bit each year. Eventually, they built a fence and told him that his garden must stay inside the fence. As time goes on, I realize on a weekly basis (at least) that I am *just* like him in so many ways (except that I don’t buy gross cookies!)
Also, I need to give a HUGE shout-out to my mom (Linda Howard) for keeping these pictures all this time and for scanning them for me! They make me realize that I really have come full-circle!
