Of course, there are things I miss about living in the city. Our friends, our church, Starbucks… But there is SO much to keep us occupied right here on our little chunk of land that we can stay happily entertained without really having to leave if we don’t want to. (Except maybe to the home improvement stores, which see a lot of us!)
We ALWAYS have a building project going on. Today we were working on a little “pen” to keep the hay in and the goats out. Next, we need to find someone close-by with hay for sale. Soon, we need to make a pen for the baby goats that we hope will arrive in February. We also need to make a shelter and “buck pen” for our buck Jake and his little buddy Chip.
We have a pool liner that needs to be replaced and a pond with a bit of a leak that needs to be stopped or reinforced or whatever it is you do to fix a leaky pond. Can you tell I haven’t wrapped my mind around that one yet?
It might sound like too much work, and occasionally I feel that way too, but generally, it is work I love. We do it together. We learn together, we build together, we sweat together, we play together. At this point in my life, I wouldn’t choose any other way to raise my children. We simply love it here. The move to the country is the best decision we could have ever made, and for that I am truly thankful.
