Hello again! I have been once again slaving away on my
dining room makeover. It is almost done and I can hardly wait to show it to everyone. In the mean time, I think I’ll post a few teasers so you can see what I’ve been up to!

My beautiful rooster painting! |
This is the beautiful rooster painting that my mother in law painted for me as a Christmas present. Isn’t it fabulous? You may have noticed him before on the button for my Farmhouse Style Blog Hop. I hung it on the wall to demonstrate how much difference $2.99 can make to something that is already pretty great. I love this painting, I love how it looks with the green color, I love that it was painted just for me, but it is just kind of stark on the wall by itself. Check out the transformation . . .

A thrift store took the painting to the next level! |
I bought this frame a while back at the thrift store. I was going to print a large copy of the
blessing poster that I posted about before in it. Once I realized it was the exact size of the rooster painting, though, I just had to use it!

The frame was a bargain at $2.99! |
When I bought the frame, it had one coat of white paint already on it, but as I was teaching Erica (my 8 year old budding designer) there is a difference between “distressed” and “badly painted” and this was just badly painted. Never fear! Erica applied 2 coats of white semi-gloss paint, and once it was good and dry, I showed her how to make the pattern stand out better with the careful application of a sanding pad. I think she did a great job on her first distressing project. What do you think?

In the end, I realized that as much as I had a plan for how this frame should turn out, no one knows how to distress furniture (or picture frames) better than children. I’m so proud of how this turned out!
What about you? Do you distress, or do you like everything to look new and perfect?
Yes, mom, I’m talking about you…

The frame really does make a difference! It really looks good.
Yes, I knew you were talking about me. I like undistressed. But the frame looks great. “Mini You” did a great job.
It looks so great! I do love the distressed look 🙂
