Oh my goodness. This has been the busiest weekend I can remember, and Monday hasn’t been any slower!
Friday night, our cat (well, really the neighbor’s cat who thinks he’s our cat) Batman was in the duct work of the house. We were unable to pinpoint his location though, and his meows didn’t sound all that distressed, so the best we could do was remove the vent covers and go on to bed. Well, the next morning he was standing right outside the back door. The little stinker has figured out how to get in and out of the duct work from outside. We currently have no idea how he’s doing it.
Saturday morning I hosted a Square Foot Gardening class at the house. It was a stroke of genius to con the ladies into planting a bunch of my spring garden for me!
After the class, we headed up to Gadsden Alabama and purchased supplies to start 2 beehives this spring. We gained a ton of knowledge from the good people at Lookout Mountain Honeybees, but we both still know that we know very little about beekeeping!
Sunday morning we headed to Lowe’s for supplies to finish up some of our farm projects. After that we got right on some projects, but I realized that two of the goats were acting strangely. Labor had begun! Within about an hour, Tesla, one of our Lamancha goats had delivered a baby boy that we promptly named “Oreo.”

Baby Oreo looks like a Belted Galloway cow to us! |
Today, our youngest doe, Daisy delivered twin girls. They are so precious. They don’t look anything alike. One looks like a white Lamancha and one looks like, well, a brown donkey with long ears. Mom took a little work to begin bonding and nursing, but all seems well now.
Sorry for the fuzzy picture! Stay tuned for better ones! |
I’m hoping that our oldest goat, Molly, will kid tonight or tomorrow and we can all get back to our regularly scheduled programming!
