Well, if you read my post about having a snake in the chicken coop a while back, you might remember that Eric promised to buy me a shotgun to aid in future snake dispatching and for general home protection. He already had one, but honestly, the thing is huge and I can barely lift it, much less shoot it! We ended up with a youth sized (don’t laugh) 20 gauge shotgun for me, that was very reasonably priced.Perhaps you really do get what you pay for. This thing kicks like a mule! But back to my story…
Anytime you get a new gun, it really is very important that you practice shooting with it. My recommendation is to shoot with it until it doesn’t surprise you when you pull the trigger, and you can hit your target with reasonable accuracy.
So with that in mind, Eric decided that I needed to go skeet shooting. Conveniently, the shooting range near us had just opened up a skeet range, so Eric and I headed over there recently in company with Eric’s brother Matt and his wife April.
First, there is much more to the game of shooting skeet than I realized. Second, a tank top is NOT good skeet shooting attire. Third, blowing up clay targets as they zoom through the air is super fun!
And fourth, cheap shotguns are great fun, but they bite back!
Holy Heck That Thing Kicks! |
Apparently, the more it hurt my shoulder, the farther out my arm I moved the gun. By that evening, I could barely move my arm at all. This is what is looked like a few days later. Yikes!
I love shooting, but like you, need a smaller gun. ‘Just don’t have much upper body strength for aiming. How fun to go skeet shooting!! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
Ouch! I bet you went through some serious arnica after that!
