If you are a frequent reader, you know that I have been on a quest to find something to do with the feathers I constantly pick up in the yard. (If this is your first visit, then “hi!” Grab something warm to drink and let’s catch up!)
Well, this is my latest solution, feather ornaments!
Savannah is showing off her creation made with feathers from our Dominique and Barred Rock chickens! |
4 Steps to Making Feather Christmas Ornaments
1. Remove cap from clear (some of ours were slightly iridescent) ornament.
We thought they stood up really well in an egg carton while we hunted for the perfect feather to add! |
2. Insert feathers.
3. Position feathers with the back of a pen or pencil.
Move them around until you like the positioning |
4. Re-cap ornament.
Yep, it’s that easy!
This project was kid-tested, kid approved! The best part is that the kids loved making these and it kept them occupied while I made a batch of fresh mozzarella yesterday!
They all asked to make more when I buy more ornaments! They thought it would be fun to do a whole Christmas tree wrapped in feather boas and decorated with feather ornaments. I’m game!
If you missed them, be sure to check out my posts on feather crafts and DIY Guinea Feather Coasters too! I also have lots of feather crafts pinned on Pinterest, so be sure to follow me there!
Thanks for visiting! Do you have any great homemade Christmas projects that I can do with my kids? If so, let me know!
These are really great. I don’t have guineas but I do have chickens. We might try to some of these. It’s always great to fine something the kids can do while you do something you need to do. Thanks for sharing.
Chicken feathers work great! I hope you give them a try!
Oh my gosh, those are gorgeous!! I’ll have to start collecting feathers. 🙂
Don’t start collecting!! They’ll take over your life!! 😉 (just kidding. kind of…)
What a fun homestead-y decorating idea!!
My daughter would love this. Great idea.
Thanks! I hope she enjoys it!
Like I said above I really like this post. I wanted to let you know that it will be featured on Rural Wisdom and Know How #3 this Saturday.
Oh, wow!! Thank you so much! I’ll be sure to look for it when I link up another post on Saturday!
Cute idea! I might try this with my grandsons. We have plenty of chicken feathers too 🙂 Visiting from Clever Chicks Blog Hop.
These are so sweet, my kiddo will love this project! Thanks for sharing!
