I don’t know about you, but I experience an afternoon “slump” everyday. I love coffee and tea, but I know I drink too much of it, so I am always looking for a caffeine-free afternoon pick-me-up drink. This healthy energy drink helps give me energy to get through the rest of my day (including karate and/or my Cage Fitness workout) and had added health benefits as well. Most importantly, though, it tastes great!
The only ingredients in this drink are water, apple cider vinegar *affiliate* and raw honey (local if possible, of course!) I use Bragg’s apple cider vinegar with the “mother” (ACV) that is known to have great health benefits, such as regulating blood sugar, weight loss and energy improvement. Read more health benefits of apple cider vinegar here.
Both ACV and honey are known to boost energy, so I like to drink this any afternoon when I need extra energy, but I find it especially useful if I’m suffering from a cold or sinus trouble. This drink combines 3 ingredients known to help ease sinus trouble. Local honey is revered for improving allergies, apple cider vinegar is supposed to help stuffy noses (plus both of those ingredients are antibacterial to help kill germs!) Add hot water, which helps steam your sinus open and you are bound to feel at least a little relief!
I have seen variations on this recipe using anything from 1 teaspoon of vinegar to 2 tablespoons. I finally found the amounts that taste good to me, but feel free to adjust this to your own tastes.
- 8 oz. hot water
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (with the mother)
- 1 tablespoon raw honey
- Mix all ingredients in a mug and sip while it's nice and warm.
How do you get through your afternoon slump?
