Do you love cookbooks? I just love them, and we always joke that you can flip through my cookbooks and find the good recipes based on the stains and drips on the pages. What can I say, I’m not the neatest cook. I was recently sent a copy of The Nourished Kitchen *affiliate* cookbook by Jenny McGruther to review, so here is my unbiased review.
Actually, I have to say I was thrilled that I got this book to review. It had been on my “Amazon suggestions” list for awhile, but I hadn’t gotten around to purchasing it yet. (Amazon knows me well.)
The Nourished Kitchen is a cookbook about the traditional foods diet. I have another cookbook on this subject, which is called Nourishing Traditions, so it’s hard not to compare the two. While Nourishing Traditions is chock full of information, I found The Nourished Kitchen to be much more approachable and less intimidating.
This cookbook includes plenty of pictures along with stories to accompany the recipes, giving them a personal touch.
I have had a chance to cook a few recipes from The Nourished Kitchen, and I have enjoyed them all so far! My particular favorite is the “cider braised kale with apples and sweet cherries” from page 34. It was quick and easy for me to throw together after karate one night.
Honestly, she had me at kale, but it really was delicious and Eric even asked for seconds!
While not every recipe in the book is for me, I was impressed by the sheer quantity of delicious looking, nourishing, recipes made with honest, traditional ingredients. With over 300 pages, there are certainly enough recipes that blow my skirt up to make this book worth my while!
