I was skeptical at first too.
When one of my close friends announced that she was going to be selling a line of skin care and beauty products, I internally rolled my eyes and wondered how long it would be before she got burned. You see, I’ve been down this road before, and in my experience, these things either don’t end well, or they just quietly go away and we pretend like they never happened.
She is still my friend though, so I asked for a catalog and said I would try some things to be polite.
Y’all can I just tell you how impressed I have been with these products?
You see, she was selling Neal’s Yard Remedies, also known as NYR Organic. This is an established company in the UK, but they have only recently brought their products across the pond and they are using independent distributors to get the word out here instead of setting up brick and mortar stores.
NYR Organic is committed to providing safe, effective products free of the harmful chemicals that flow so freely in conventional “health” and beauty products. Here is a quote from their website:
We Believe In Safe Cosmetics
What it all means
Health is the most important thing to us. When formulating and making our products, we follow the precautionary principle – which means not using anything we believe could cause you, or the planet harm.
You’ll find this list around the base of our labels. Here’s what it all means:
NO PARABENS – linked to oestrogen overproduction
NO SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCES – many contain synthetic chemicals that are harmful to health
NO GMO INGREDIENTS – not enough is known about the long-term implications
NO animal testing – unnecessary and cruel
NO SILICONES – coat the skin, impeding its natural function
NO PHTHALATES – reported to have toxic impact on human and animal life
NO NANO – not enough is known about the long-term implications
NO MINERAL OILS – derived from petroleum, have a tendency to block the skin
NO EDTA – doesn’t readily biodegrade
NO PROPYLENE GLYCOL – derived from petroleum
NO CARBOMER – derived from petroleum
NO DEA – associated with known carcinogens
NO ACRYLATES – derived from petroleum
NO BHT – linked to breathing and lung impairment
Say NO to being contaminated without consent
I have since tried several of Kate’s NYR products and I have really been impressed with the quality. They are smell lovely, but are fragranced with essential oils, so they don’t bother me like many scented products do.
In fact, I have a funny story for you.
I almost never shower before my morning chores, but one day recently we had somewhere to be very early, so I got right up and showered with the
NYR Lavender Shampoo and
Conditioner. When I got out, the kids and I bounced down to the barn to knock out the chores.
I feel certain my wet hair was gleaming in the morning sun, or something like that.
Anyway, before we got to the barn, I had a bit of a situation. The bees from our backyard hive had smelled my lavender-scented hair and were buzzing around my head inquisitively. They weren’t aggressive, but they were clearly trying to figure out how to obtain nectar from my wet head. They went away when they figured out that I wasn’t a flower, but I’ll tell you it was WEIRD. The scent of the shampoo and conditioner was authentic enough to fool the bees, and that’s saying something!
P.S. I love bees, and I wasn’t frightened by this encounter, but I’ll keep it real and say that’s the last time I showered with lavender before chores!
All this is to say, that despite my skepticism, I really like the products my awesome, tattooed friend sells in her little blue bottles, so we talked and decided that:
A. I should tell all of you about them, because it isn’t nice to keep good things to myself!
B. She should give something away to prove to you how good these products are!
And, in case you are like me and had NO idea what exactly one does with a “Beauty Balm,” she sent me this helpful list of possibilities.
She gave me a sample of the beauty balm and it is really great stuff! I especially like using it as an eyebrow tamer (suggestion #9) but I’ve enjoyed it as a lip balm and a general moisturizer too!
In addition, I agreed to host a little online party for her and she tells me that during the month of November, NYR Organic is giving away a FREE travel-sized Frankinsence Facial Wash when you spend $60!
So let’s do that giveaway, shall we?
a Rafflecopter giveaway
***The goal of this post and giveaway is truly to help my friend get the word out about the cool products she sells. She does tell me, however that if sales from the party exceed $200, I will be compensated by way of free products. If you would like to host your own party and earn free product, feel free to contact her at organickatenyr@gmail.com ***
