Triple Bunk Project

The Triple Bunk Project

A few weeks ago some awesome friends and I decide to bless a family who has just come back from having adopted two precious girls from Eastern Europe.  They also have four biological children, so space was tight.    We realized that their day to day lives would just run more easily if they could put their girls in triple bunk beds, so, we went to Lowe’s, picked up lumber and stain and headed to a friends house to build them a set!

My gorgeous friend Kate with her girls and their new bunks!
Don’t they look happy?

We downloaded the triple bunk bed plans from a website called The Handmade Dress and we were in business.

My Savannah desperately wanted to help!

Each of Kate’s children have a special color that is assigned to them, so we used their color to make the beds extra special.  Yellow on top, purple in the middle, pink on the bottom.  The girls knew immediately which bed was theirs and were so excited to have their own special space.  We used two coats of custom-mixed stain from Lowe’s followed by a quick coat of furniture wax.

A special place for everyone!
I just love how this project turned out!  I hope you liked it too!
What about you?  Have you ever built any furniture?

  1. We just made a loft bed into a triple bunk, but it’s not what our kids like…AT ALL (in fact, the toddler REFUSES to sleep in it!). You’ve inspired me … this is FABULOUS!!! The work is LOVELY (color coding? brilliant.) and the heart behind it is even lovelier. I think what you guys did is amazing!
