DIY Star Wars Decor

I officially have a post that has taken off on Pinterest!  Apparently lots of people like my DIY Darth Vader Lamp, so I thought I would share with you a few Star Wars themed signs that I also made for my son.  Last year his birthday fell right in the middle of our move to the new house.  He wanted a Star Wars theme, so I was able to do some double duty by making decorations that would work for the party, but could also go into his new room.  I painted two signs.  The first one was painted onto an old board I found in our garage.  I liked how the cracks in the wood reminded me of Yoda’s wrinkles.

To make this sign, I first downloaded and installed a Star Wars Font.  Then I typed up the words and played around with the font size until I had it just like I wanted.  Next, I scribbled all over the backs with a pencil to make a transfer.  I used blue painters tape to mark straight lines and tape down the words.  Then I traced over the words with a pencil to transfer them to the board.  After that, I painted in the letters and added a black border.

When I made this sign, I didn’t have a black paint pen.  A paint pen makes this go MUCH faster, even if you just use it to outline your letters and then fill in with a paint brush.

Next, using the same technique, and a canvas I had laying around the house, I made a second sign.  What’s a Star Wars theme without this saying??

I painted the white letters in acrylic paint, and then outlined them in silver Sharpie, and the word “force” is all done in silver Sharpie.  I was worried about the longevity of the Sharpie ink, but I made these over a year ago, and there hasn’t been any color bleeding at all so far.

Well, there you have it!  I just love decorating with favorite quotes, in fact, I’m looking for just the right board to paint a quote for my dining room.  And, in case you missed it, here is the Darth Vader Lamp again…
