How Does Your Garden Grow?

My garden is gaining momentum for the year!  I’ve reached the magical portion of the season when I look at a plant and say “I just planted that!  Look at it now!” Or sometimes I laugh and channel my grandaddy when I say “It’s not supposed to get that big,” a statement that he was famous for making as he surveyed his garden.

We have begun to harvest about a gallon of produce a day, which might not sound like much, but it keeps us busy and well fed (and perhaps a little nervous about how I will manage all the produce once it really starts pouring in on me!)

We are currently harvesting cucumbers, zucchini, green (purple) beans, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and we’re getting the first few cherry tomatoes, which my girls allow to get *almost* ripe before devouring.  Our early peach tree has already borne it’s harvest, and hopefully the others will come in soon.  I also spotted cornsilks sticking out of our early sweet corn stalks this morning, so we’ll be back in corn before we know it!

We are also still getting eggs and milk, and hopefully I’ll make a batch of dill pickles tomorrow (as Eric informed me after I made heaps of bread-n-butter pickles last year that he didn’t like sweet pickles.  Grrr.)

Anyway, I’d say we are all set.  In the event of the apocalypse, the party is here!

So, tell me, how does your garden grow?

  1. Love your blog….my garden is doing well.
I didn’t plant until the middle of May but our growing season is almost all year around.
I have harvested chard…..we have lemons all year long and herbs, too.
Neighbors have oranges, blackberries and plums…..blackberries almost done but she harvested lots of peaches from her son’s tree and shared those.
I have tomatoes, kabocha, green beans, peppers, sugar snap peas, tomatillos, cilantro and fennel growing. Plus a volunteer strawberry plant.
