Big News! We’re Going on a Trip!

Well, I was really hoping to have some baby news for you by now, but Beulah is being very stubborn and still hasn’t had her calf.  In fact I’ve almost stopped hovering over her and bouncing out the door expecting a calf every morning when I get up.  I suppose she’ll give birth in her own time, but the suspense is killing me!

Anyway, since I don’t have any baby calf news for you today, I thought I would share the other exciting news that is going on around here.  The Green Eggs & Goats Clan is getting ready to pack our bags and head off for an epic vacation in October.  We’re going to Ireland!

Round Tower on Devinish Island Lower Lough Erne, Northern Irealnd

I’m actually half Irish, and although I’ve spent some time there, it was half a lifetime ago, and I’m excited to introduce Eric and the kids to my big fun Irish family!  Here at home it always feels like I come from a tiny family, but in fact, I have cousins scattered around the world.  I tell the kids about them, but I don’t think it really feels real to them yet.

We are all terribly excited about the trip, as well as nervous about leaving the farm for more than a week, but we’ll manage, and we have a great neighbor who will come and feed the animals and look after things for us.  In the mean time, we’ve been getting our passports renewed, booking tickets, saving our € and £, reading, researching, watching shows about Ireland, and doing our best to prepare ourselves.  We are homeschoolers, after all.  There’s nothing that excites us like learning about a foreign country and then getting to actually go there!

So, in lieu of calf news, I’m glad I had something to report to you today!

What about you?  Have you ever taken your family on an epic vacation?  I would love to hear all about it, along with your best tips for airplane travel with little ones!

  1. I’m still very nervous about that bridge and that was in 1996! No way I’d get on that thing! And yes, your big Irish family is tons of fun.
